Hey friends!
So this week was really pretty crazy. We ended up helping a lot of people! So if you haven't heard, madison wisconsin is almost underwater, jk. But there has been a ton of rain, especially last Monday was super scary. We didn't see any of the actual flooding but some other missionaries in our area did and it sounded pretty crazy. we also saw a lot of pictures of it. So one of the members of the ward had his car flooded... like totally destroyed the car, and that is pretty much it for the ward members. The majority of people have little to no damage, but there are some areas that got wrecked. So we went to help out cleaning up on Thursday and we helped this family whose basement was flooded up to the ceiling. So their fridge was turned upside down, their was nothing that was in the basement that was really even worth trying to keep. The houses all down the block had very severe damage and it was pretty scary to see. We were able to help with clean up, and then sandbagging for preparation for the rain that's supposed to come this week. We are safe, our apartment is on pretty high ground and we aren't too worried about it, but there is a lot of other people who are struggling. So it has been a blast to be able to be a part of helping with that, but the missionary efforts in the area are growing a lot as well! We have been blessed to be able to continue to teach Son! He is reading the Book of Mormon almost every day and just waiting for the answer to come. We really don't know what all we can do right now to help him until he gets the answer. Also we were able to meet a lot of people on the streets! There are finally some people moving in to campus, and that has been really helpful for us, because that means that there are people walking around all the time to talk to. Before it was a little scary not knowing if anyone was even going to be there when we were planning, but now that people are moving in there are a lot more people to talk to, and a lot more people in turn are ready to hear our message! We have had a really succesful week finding, now it is a matter of following up with them!
So another interesting thing that was said this week about the floods, one of the Elders in our district goes "I know we always joke about baptizing nations, but I don't think we need to worry about that anymore, God is doing it for us" I just about died laughing. It is so true though, there has been so much rain. So the rest of the week was pretty much a normal week of work, we also had our interviews with President Williams, and that was exciting! It always is, but this one was extremely good! I enjoy being around President Williams and learning from him. We were also blessed with finding 2 new people to teach this week, their names are Ariel and Lexie(well that is their American names) They are from China and have been in the US for about a week now... so that was interesting! They really have no ideas of what God is, or what he is supposed to be, or anything about him at all really. So we had a good lesson about learning who God is, and how to pray to him so we know he is there. It was super hard to teach because they speak English, but not the greatest, and we don't speak chinese so that doesn't help much. It was good though! So then on Sunday we had a ton of people at the ward because there are a lot of new students moving in, it is pretty cool to get to know them and help them out the best that we can! It has been really good this last couple weeks to be able to work with the ward a lot more than I have in any of my other areas, and we are starting to see the mindset of the members change to where they actually want to do missionary work!
Well I hope you have a wonderful week. Good luck with school starting for those who have it, and hope the rest of you enjoyed the summer! Here comes fall!

Madison Round 3!
Hey Peeps!
So this week was pretty normal, as normal as it gets here in Madison. It was actually super cool! We were able to do a lot of Street contacting, and we even got to teach a couple lessons this week! We also have been really focusing on working with the ward, so we have had an appointment almost every day with a member to help them do missionary work on their own! It is something different than I have done for my entire Mission but it has seemed to be pretty cool for the people that we are working with.
One of the coolest things that happened this week, it was on Tuesday. We were walking back towards our apartment and passed the church, and I checked our phone to see if we had any notifications and Son(a guy we are teaching) had texted us to see if we can meet him at the church in 10 minutes. It was pretty interesting that we happened to be at the church right at the time he texted... Coincidence? I think not! Even more interesting, we have not even had a lesson with him yet so that was our first one. It was completely out of the blue and unscheduled. We actually had scheduled an appointment with someone else at that time that fell through earlier and allowed for us to meet with him. If that isn't God working in our lives I don't know what is.
Scary story this week! So we were doing service at the food pantry and I was standing right next to a scale to weigh produce. This scale is on a table, and it's basically a big chunk of metal. Anyway this old lady that volunteers there as well was walking right in front of me, tripped and hit her head on the scale. It was pretty intense for a couple seconds because everyone in the room looked right at us... Luckily nothing happened and she was okay! It was pretty scary to watch her fall right in front of me. But I'm glad that she is alright and everything is well!
Spiritual thought:
So this week I have been reading the book that the church is publishing called the Saints! It is all about church history, and so far all about Joseph Smith! It talks a lot about his experiences and mistakes with following the Revelation he had received. I am glad that we have the opportunity to learn from him that it is okay to make mistakes. When we are striving to follow Jesus Christ we can be forgiven of all the mistakes that we make and continue to receive more revelation! I know that God leads each of us in our lives, and wants the best for all of us! I would encourage you all to read the Saints, it is a super easy read and is awesome!
Hope you have a wonderful week!

Madison is Sooooo Fun!
This week was one of the most interesting weeks I have had on my mission. We have been starting to get used to the area, and it has been pretty fun! Downtown Madison always has something weird going on, and campus is still really empty because school hasn't started yet. So it is still a little rough to try to find a good place to contact people, but we have a couple of good spots that we like to go to! We were able to finally meet some of the people that have been taught in this area before we got here. They are super cool, and we think that they will progress towards baptism fairly quickly!
We seemed to stay pretty busy this week, especially after Thursday. On Tuesday we had Zone conference and learned all about Facebook and how we get to use that! So if you haven't noticed yet, I will be posting on Facebook occasionally to share the gospel. We have basically been told that if it fulfills our missionary purpose then we can do it when it comes to Facebook. So we don't really know how to best use it yet, but we will be finding out soon! Here in Madison there is a very diverse group of people. On one day this week we met a lady from Jamaica, Kenya, and Greece. There's always a bunch of Asian people as well. I'm not sure if they're Chinese or Japanese or what, but a lot of them don't speak super good English. It's really funny when you try to stop them on the street and they don't understand a single word you're saying. But it's really fun!
So also on Saturday, I was able to baptize a woman who is in the Madison First Ward! Sisters were teaching her and the person she wanted to baptize her was out of town and so they asked me to do it! It was a really cool experience, and I am so grateful for the spirit that was felt. I am also very thankful for her testimony and knowledge of the Gospel! It is so cool to see people change their lives and come to know their savior even more!
So on a less serious note, one really funny thing that happened. We were walking down a street called State Street, it is in downtown and has a lot of bars and things that tourists like to go to. We were there and this homeless guy stopped us and asked us about the doctrine of progression... So that was fun. But as we were talking to him this thing called the trolley Pub Rolls by on the street. It is literally a moving bar. So basically there were 10 drunk people pedaling to make it move and singing very loudly while we were trying to teach a guy about the Plan of Salvation... It was pretty awkward. We laughed about it a lot! Also we had a pretty funny story where we got lost on the bus and didn't end up getting home until almost 10... whoops!
It has been so much fun, but here is a bit of a spiritual thought for the week.
So I have really enjoyed starting to read Isaiah. It is still hard for me to understand sometimes, but it helps me learn a lot when I really focus on it. Anyway, there are multiple times in the Isaiah chapters of the Book of Mormon that he is talking about how wicked the people are and how the wrath of God will come down on them if they don't repent. But every time that it says that, it says afterwards "His anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still" I love that no matter what we do God's love is always there for us, and that no matter how bad of a situation we are in, "His hand is stretched out still' He is always willing to help us! We just need to turn to him!!
Well I hope you all have a wonderful week! Never forget that God loves you!

Madison week one! Goodbye Appleton ðŸ˜
Well this week was super hard. Probably one of the weirdest weeks of my mission, if not the weirdest. So it was hard to leave Appleton, lots of relationships and friendships that have been put on hold for a time, but that is life and so be it! I am very excited about working here in Madison but it is a completely different form of work than any other area I have been in, so let me tell ya about it!
So I left Appleton on Tuesday night so I could be in Milwaukee wednesday morning to have a meeting and meet my new trainee. So we met and his name is Elder Winborg, and he is a super cool guy! He is very prepared missionary and loves the work out here. I have loved being able to get to know him. So we drove someone else's car back up to Madison and made the journey to our apartment with them. Madison is huge compared to any of the other cities I have served in! People talk about it being a smaller city and that it isn't really a city but I totally disagree. I think it might be the biggest city I have ever been in, or maybe it just feels like it because I have been in these super small towns for a long time. Also I think the campus is bigger than any campus I have ever been on, and I am pretty sure that I have still only seen about half of it, we keep finding new places every day. So yeah, it's pretty crazy. We don't have a car, so we have been riding busses around a little bit and that is pretty fun! You meet some interesting people and they get you places faster than walking, so that is always good!
Well this week was full of all sorts of emotions. So to start off when we first got here it was just confusion and trying to take it all in, then it led to discouragement because we didn't know how to street contact, and then we got okay at it and I was starting to feel good and then Saturday happened. So first, nobody is on campus on Saturday. It's summer so there aren't a ton anyway, but Saturday was completely empty. So then we tried to do some bus contacting and pretty much got lost on the bus system. Then we tried downtown and there were so many people that it was hard to choose just one to stop and talk to... So it's been a learning experience for sure, lots of trial and error, but it is getting a little better!
The ward here is super cool, it is kinda weird to be in a Ysa ward where everyone is close to your age. There is a couple kids that come that are still 18 which is weird cause I am used to feeling young compared to all of the Elders Quorum but now we are like average! So that's weird! But also they signed up to feed us a bunch this week, so we will get to know some of them more! I am excited to see how it goes, we will for sure be doing things that I have never done before for the first few weeks!
We have also seen that people will put them selves in super awkward situations to ignore us. So we are next to this guy on the bus and Elder Winborg looks at this guy and says "hey how's it going?" the guy didn't look like he heard him so elder Winborg said it again and the guy looked right at him and then just continued to sit there. So then we had a super awkward 5 minute bus ride right across the row from this guy and it was hilarious 😂 you could just feel his hatred toward us!
So that is life in Madison, I hope life at home is just as interesting! Here is a short spiritual thought for you:
So we heard from a family from the Ivory Coast who immigrated here 10 years ago and some of their struggles and conversion to the gospel. One thing he said that I really liked was "we had to keep fighting to stay strong in the gospel" I think the word fighting is super cool. We don't just push, we don't just walk, we don't just try in the gospel. We must fight for our testimony, we have to really fight for it. It doesn't come when we just sit back and relax, it requires effort. That's why missionaries testimonies grow so much. We are putting it to the test daily. So fight for it, it will help you see how much you really need it in your life!
Hope you all have a great week!
